As a young Black girl interested in artificial intelligence, you might feel both excited about the possibilities and hesitant about traditional learning environments. The tech world can seem overwhelming, especially when many coding bootcamps and classes emphasize group work and networking. But being an introvert doesn’t have to hold you back from pursuing your passion for AI. Whether you’re in elementary school, middle school, or high school, there are lots of fun ways to explore AI at your own pace.
For Younger Girls (Ages 8-12):
Start with fun coding games like Scratch Jr. or Code.org‘s Hour of Code.
Watch kid-friendly videos about AI on sites like BrainPOP.
Try AI projects with a parent or trusted adult, like teaching a computer to play tic-tac-toe.
For Middle Schoolers (Ages 13-15):
Explore beginner-friendly apps like Google’s Teachable Machine.
Join online clubs where you can learn without turning on your camera if you don’t want to.
Start a small coding club with 1-2 friends who also love tech.
For High Schoolers (Ages 16-19):
Take online courses designed for teens on platforms like Coursera or Udacity.
Look for Black teen mentors who can show you the ropes one-on-one.
Work on personal projects that interest you, like making a simple AI art generator.
